The organizing committee, sponsors, host yacht clubs, staff and volunteers of ISAF Sailing World Cup Miami join in sharing our sadness for the loss of two-time Olympic medalist Andrew Simpson. Andrew was one of the 11-person crew onboard Artemis Racing’s AC72 catamaran that capsized during training on San Francisco Bay, ahead of this summer’s America’s Cup.

Together with Iain Percy, Simpson won an Olympic gold medal (’08) and a silver medal (’12) for Great Britain in the Star class. As a previous competitor in Miami, he won gold in the Finn class in 2002. An exemplary sailor, team mate and competitor, Simpson will be missed on the water and on shore.

Our deepest sympathy and condolences go to Simpson’s family, friends and team mates at Artemis Racing and the British Sailing Team.
